With the new year, Pennsylvania's legislative session has commenced, bringing fresh opportunities for both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Senator Dan Laughlin announced changes in leadership roles within the Senate as well as his own legislative plans.

Senator Dave Argall will now chair the Senate Majority Policy Committee, taking over from Laughlin. "I’m proud of what the committee accomplished last session and I look forward to its continued work," said Laughlin.

Several key positions within the Senate Republican leadership remain unchanged. Senator Kim Ward returns as Senate President Pro Tempore, overseeing various committees and serving in significant capacities when required. Senator Joe Pittman will continue as Senate Majority Leader, focusing on legislative agendas and negotiations with other government bodies.

The role of Majority Whip sees a new face with Senator Wayne Langerholc Jr., succeeding former state Senator Ryan Aument. Meanwhile, Senator Scott Martin continues to chair the Appropriations Committee, playing a pivotal role in budget negotiations.

Other returning leaders include Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill as Majority Caucus Chair and Senator Camera Bartolotta as Majority Caucus Secretary. Senator Lisa Baker remains as Majority Caucus Administrator.

Senator Laughlin has also initiated several bills aimed at addressing issues such as Sunday hunting prohibition, medical marijuana cultivation by patients, construction project regulations, safe harbor laws for exploited children, competition in enforcing construction codes, and fees related to shoreline preservation at Lake Erie.

Laughlin expressed optimism about Erie's future following its approval for Pennsylvania’s City Revitalization and Improvement Zone (CRIZ) program—a move he advocated for eight years. The CRIZ designation is expected to boost economic development through strategic tax allocation.

"We can start the work of revitalizing our downtown," Laughlin stated regarding upcoming projects intended to enhance infrastructure and investment in Erie County.

Senator Dan Laughlin represents Pennsylvania's 49th District which includes most of Erie County.
