Behrend tennis team posts 4-0 record on the road

Penn State Behrend issued the following announcement on Oct. 5.

The Penn State Behrend women’s tennis team is 4-0 when playing on the road this year. The team will close out the 2021 season with three home matches, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 6, against Westminster.

Scores and highlights from the past week:

Men’s soccer

Penn State Behrend 2, John Carroll 1

Tyler Vandemerwe, a junior from Erie, scored the game-winner against John Carroll with a low shot to the left corner of the goal at the 86:16 mark. Sam York, a junior from Akron, Ohio, made a season-high 11 saves.

Women’s soccer

Penn State Behrend 2, Elmira 0

Penn State Behrend 5, John Carroll 1

Karla Ochoa, a junior from Pharr, Texas, scored two goals against John Carroll. Emily Clopp, a junior from Canonsburg, added two more.

Women’s volleyball

Penn State Behrend 3, Houghton 0

Penn State Behrend 3, Hilbert 0

The Lions recorded a season-best .397 attack percentage against Hilbert. Ten players had one or more kills in the match.

Men’s cross-country

32nd (of 42 teams) at the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville, Kentucky

Phoenix Myers, a senior from Erie, led the Lions, finishing the 8K race in 24:11.4. He placed 132nd in a field of 340 runners.

Women’s cross-country

29th (of 37 teams) at the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville, Kentucky

Olivia Nola, a freshman from Erie, finished the 6K race in 24:42.9. She placed 108th in a field of 278 runners.

Men’s golf

First (of seven teams) at the James Bowen Invitational

Ryan Johnson, a junior from Centre Hall, won the individual title with a season-best 72 at the Lawrence Park Golf Course. Phil Pedano, a freshman from Erie, won a tiebreaker to finish second.

Women’s tennis

Penn State Behrend 9, Mt. Aloysius 0

Penn State Behrend 9, Penn State Altoona 0

Penn State Behrend 8, Thiel 1

Marissa Bowles, a senior from Springfield, New Jersey, and Jada Donatien, a senior from Brooklyn, New York, won at No. 2 doubles against Altoona with a score of 8-0. Each also won a singles match.

Men’s water polo

Cal Lutheran 24, Penn State Behrend 6

Occidental 13, Penn State Behrend 3

Caltech 16, Penn State Behrend 5

Chapman 23, Penn State Behrend 4

Jack Holl, a freshman from Greenwich, Connecticut, and Eli Anderson, a sophomore from Encinitas, California, each scored two goals against Cal Lutheran. Devin Lockard, a sophomore from Edgewood, Washington, made nine saves against Caltech.
