Senate to discuss orphan and abandoned well plugging in Pennsylvania

The Senate Majority Policy Committee will hold a public hearing on orphan and abandoned well plugging in Pennsylvania on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 9 a.m. The event will take place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, located at 1000 Ft. Duquesne Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.

Senator Dan Laughlin (R-49), chair of the committee, announced that the hearing will address several key issues. These include the identification and inventory process for orphan and abandoned wells, strategies to streamline the plugging process, and potential funding mechanisms to ensure that plugging efforts are effective and sustainable while addressing safety and environmental concerns.

The hearing will be available via livestream.
