Behrend wrestler Kyle Trim wins three matches at Jamestown

Penn State Behrend wrestler Kyle Trim won three bouts at the Jamestown Community College Open and another at home against St. John Fisher. Trim, a heavyweight, has nine wins by fall this season.

Behrend’s basketball, volleyball, track and field, and swimming and diving teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 87, Mt. Aloysius 50

Alfred State 72, Penn State Behrend 66

Tommy DiRienzo, a junior from Pittsburgh, scored a career-high 27 points against Mt. Aloysius. He also grabbed six rebounds and had three steals. Seth Myers, a senior from Erie, added 17 points.

Women’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 81, Mt. Aloysius 49

Penn State Behrend 93, Alfred State 57

Rachel Majewski, a sophomore from Erie, scored 21 points against Mt. Aloysius. Madilyn Boyer, a freshman from Saxonburg, scored 16 against Alfred State.

Men’s volleyball

Concordia Wisconsin 3, Penn State Behrend 2

Penn State Behrend 3, Thiel 1

Alex Jackson, a junior from Cochranton, recorded 37 assists and 12 digs against Thiel. Kyle Hoffman, a freshman from Carlton, had 12 kills.

Men’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 177, Nazareth 101

Tim Compton, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, set a pool record in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 1:53.61. He also won the 100 butterfly (51.96) and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay. Jake Niziol, a junior from Eighty Four, won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.36) and the 200 breaststroke (2:17.98).

Women’s swimming and diving

Nazareth 186, Penn State Behrend 90

Madelyn King, a freshman from Uniontown, won the 200 IM, finishing in 2:27. The Behrend freestyle team — Jadyn Danylko, Trulee Stainbrook, Bella Nadzam and Becca Krenzer — won the 200 relay, finishing in 1:48.28.

Men’s track and field

Samuel Hetrick, a junior from New Bethlehem, won the high jump at the Spire Collegiate Invite, clearing a height of 2.04 meters. Cody Klein, a sophomore from North East, won the 800-meter race, finishing in 1:57.97. Klein joined teammates Zachary Tingley, Jason Seevers and Aiden Reinsel in the 4x400 relay, which the Lions won in 3:34.33.

Women’s track and field

Madison Kappeler, a junior from Cecil, won the pole vault event at the Spire Collegiate Invite, clearing a height of 3.20 meters. Savanna Carr, a senior from Franklin, placed second in the mile run, finishing in 5:20.17.

Wrestling

St. John Fisher 38, Penn State Behrend 12

Brian Himes, a senior from Brookville, earned his first pin of the season in the 184-pound bout against St. John Fisher.
