The impact fee on unconventional natural gas wells in Pennsylvania has resulted in over $321,000 being allocated to two communities in Erie County. Senator Dan Laughlin has highlighted the importance of a diverse energy portfolio in the state and the positive impact that natural gas has had on Pennsylvania's energy policy.

Laughlin stated, "Not only does this fuel source deliver us the energy we need, but it also generates vital funding for projects throughout the state, and I’m glad communities in Erie County are benefitting from that funding."

The funds have been approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority and will be directed towards the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program. The grants will support various projects, including road and bridge repairs, housing, and other infrastructure needs.

The impact fees are in addition to the regular business taxes paid by corporations in Pennsylvania. The disbursements are based on a formula established in Act 13 of 2012, ensuring that communities affected by drilling receive their fair share of funding.

The disbursement of these funds highlights the state's commitment to supporting communities impacted by natural gas drilling. It is a testament to the importance of responsible energy development and the goal of ensuring that the benefits of this industry are shared with local communities.
