Erie County museums have been granted almost $27,000 in state funding, according to an announcement made by Senator Dan Laughlin (R-49). The funding, awarded through the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission’s Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program, aims to support the operations of eligible museums and county historical societies that do not receive funding from other state agencies.
Laughlin highlighted the significance of the two museums receiving the grants. He stated, "The Hagen History Center, formerly known as the Erie County Historical Society, focuses on the history of Erie County for the past 200 years, while for more than 25 years, the expERIEnce Children’s Museum has offered a safe, family-centered educational experience to inspire creativity and imagination in children."
The Hagen History Center received a grant of $16,676, while the expERIEnce Children’s Museum was awarded a grant of $10,235. Laughlin emphasized the importance of these institutions in serving the Erie community and expressed his belief that the funding would enable them to continue their valuable work.
This grant program aims to strengthen the museum community in Pennsylvania and provide support for museums and historical societies that lack funding from other state sources. The funds awarded to the Erie County museums will contribute to the general operations of these institutions, ensuring their continued ability to serve the community.
