Gannon Lecturers Included in Jefferson Educational Society’s Winter 2023 Programming

The Jefferson Educational Society’s Global Summit may be over, but the Gannon and Erie community can still attend any event that makes up the Society’s winter schedule.

Founded to promote civic enlightenment and community progress for the Erie Region through the study, research and discussion, the JES offers courses, seminars and lectures explaining the central ideas that have formed the past, assist in exploring the present and offer guidance to enhance the civic future of the Erie Region.

Several Gannon community members are giving lectures as part of the winter series of events. See below for a schedule of Gannon lecturers and view the full 2023 Winter Schedule here.

Shadow Pandemic: Examining Erie’s Domestic Violence During COVID-19

Speaker: Christopher Magno, Ph.D., Professor of Criminal Justice, Gannon University

Feb. 9 | 7-8:30 p.m.

This lecture discusses the trends and nature of domestic violence in Erie during the pandemic. 

Brain Drain in the 21st Century: Current Trends in Developing and Developed Countries

Speaker: Anjali Sahay, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Program Director of Political Science, School of Public Service and Global Affairs, Gannon University

Feb. 13 | 7-8:30 p.m.

In this lecture, current brain drain trends, brain gain opportunities and the changes in global migration corridors will be discussed.

Dr. Martin Luther King and America’s Self-Evident Truth

Speaker: Parris Baker, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Director, Social Work, Mortuary Science and Gerontology Programs, Gannon University

Feb. 20 | 7-8:30 p.m.

This lecture will examine the meaning of "self-evident truths" based on political and cultural hermeneutics, in 1776, in 1963 and in our post-modern America. 

Neighborhood Revitalization in Erie’s West Bayfront: OWB (Our West Bayfront)

Speaker: Anna Frantz, M.C.P., Executive Director, Our West Bayfront

Feb. 24 | 12-1:30 p.m.

In this lecture, Anna Frantz will discuss OWB's community-led approach to neighborhood revitalization, the partnerships that support this work and exciting initiatives in development for 2023.
