Pennsylvania State University-Penn State DuBois issued the following announcement on Mar. 23.

The United States Collegiate Athletic Association recently announced the national awards for women's basketball and multiple Penn State DuBois players ranked among the top. Lexey Shick and Tara Hinderliter were named USCAA National All-Americans for the 2021-22 season. Hinderliter (17.7 ppg) and Shick (12.8 ppg) led their team on points per game and overall team leadership.

Shick is a graduate of Union High School and a senior guard for the Penn State DuBois women's basketball team. "Lexey was a true team leader all season long. Her senior leadership was what the team needed, as we had nine first year players. Lex led by example, on and off the court, for all of our younger girls to see and she taught the younger players how you should compete at the collegiate levels. Her on the court intensity level was unmatched and I am proud to have had the opportunity to coach her," said Pat Lewis, Penn State DuBois women’s basketball coach.

Hinderliter is a graduate of Redbank Valley High School and a sophomore guard on the team. Coach Lewis said, "Tara was a very skilled finisher on our team this year. Very aggressive on offense and that is what we needed. She improved each and every game and was one of the top vote getters for West Rookie of the Year in the PSUAC. Tara always has a smile on her face but had a fierce will to win."

The most astonishing thing about these young ladies accomplishments this season is that they were on the road this year for 24 games and still reached unprecedented academic levels.

Six Penn State DuBois women's basketball players earned USCAA National Academic All-American awards -- Mackenzie Bauer, Tara Hinderliter, Hayley Matter, Lexey Shick, Maddie Steiner and Emiley Wheeler. Athletes are given this award by earning a 3.5 GPA or higher, showing excellence in the classroom.

"When we recruit for the women's basketball program, we try to bring in great students that are also talented basketball players. This group of young ladies proves that. To have six USCAA Academic All-Americans in one season is incredible. The most astonishing thing about these young ladies' accomplishments this season is that they were on the road this year for twenty-four games and still reached unprecedented academic levels," said Coach Lewis on the season.

The 2021-22 basketball season at Penn State DuBois was played only on the road while the campus anticipates the completion of the new Physical fitness, Athletics, and Wellness (PAW) Center, set to open in the fall of 2022.
