Gannon President Dr Keith Taylor awarded the 2021 Gannon University Small Business Development Center’s President’s Award to George Currie, co-owner of Erie Press Systems
The Gannon University Small Business Development Center proudly celebrated its 40-year anniversary at the university’s Center for Business Ingenuity.
The Gannon SBDC launched in 1981 to help entrepreneurs across northwest Pennsylvania realize their dreams of business ownership by providing consulting services and resources that help businesses start, grow and prosper.
University and business leaders gathered to mark the Gannon SBDC’s 40-year anniversary, welcoming guest speakers Karan Waigand of the U.S. Small Business Administration Pittsburgh Regional Office, as well as Kathy Dahlkemper, Erie County executive.
During the event, Gannon President Keith Taylor, Ph.D., also awarded the 2021 Gannon University Small Business Development Center’s President’s Award to George Currie, co-owner of Erie Press Systems. This honor recognizes an individual’s outstanding achievement as both civic and business leaders.
Currie has demonstrated commitment to creating jobs and growth opportunities within the manufacturing sector throughout his career. He has been involved in several efforts to increase interest in manufacturing careers while engaging various manufacturing-related initiatives locally and nationally.
Currie was a founder of the Erie Regional Manufacturers Partnership. He has been engaged with the Gannon SBDC since 1995.
The Gannon SBDC is the only statewide, nationally accredited program that provides high-quality, one-on-one consulting, training and information resources to empower new and existing businesses. The Gannon SBDC has worked with more than 17,000 clients and developed relevant training programs to help entrepreneurs find practical solutions to business problems over the last 40 years.
Maggie Horne, director of the Gannon SBDC, said the celebration represents a significant milestone.
“Being able to celebrate 40 years of assisting people and businesses to achieve their dreams and goals is a phenomenal milestone,” Horne said. “We did not do this alone, but with the support of Gannon University, Small Business of America, and the Department of Community and Economic Development. I am so excited to be able to thank everyone who has been supportive and helped us reach this significant milestone.”
