Gannon University Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 22.
Craig & Fred.
Gannon University will welcome author Craig Grossi to discuss his book, Craig & Fred: A Marine, a Stray Dog, and How They Rescued Each Other, as part of the university’s Gannon READS program.
The Gannon READS keynote will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25 at the Erie Insurance Arena, 809 French St. This is a required event for all first-year seminar students and faculty and is open to the Gannon community.
Craig & Fred is an uplifting and unforgettable true story of a U.S. Marine, the stray dog he met on an Afghan battlefield, and how they saved each other and now travel America together "spreading the message of stubborn positivity." The book is a poignant and inspiring tale of hope, resilience and optimism. It holds a timeless message at its heart: “It is not what happens to us that matters, but how we respond to it.” Craig & Fred is a shining example of the power of love to transform our hearts and our lives.
The annual Gannon Reading to Enhance Awareness of a Diverse Society program introduces incoming students to a faculty-chosen book, which is presented to them at the Convocation Ceremony at the start of the fall semester. Many faculty and staff members incorporate and design classes and leadership opportunities around the book during the semester.
Prior to the keynote, Grossi will host an informal meet-and-greet where he will share with students aspects of his own mental health struggle and the importance of getting support when it’s needed.
