Gannon University Athletics issued the following announcement on Aug. 26.

Bob Shreve

Bob Shreve has been named Gannon Assistant Director of Athletics Media Relations it was announced Thursday morning.

Shreve is no stranger to Gannon, previously serving as the University's Director of Sports Information and Promotions from 1990-98 before assuming the same role at Edinboro University for the next 22 years. In all, Shreve brings over four decades of athletics experience to the Gannon Athletics media relations office.

"I am very excited to be returning to the Gannon family," said Shreve. "I've been fortunate to work with some great people at outstanding institutions over the years, and I can't think of a better way to wrap things up than to contribute at Gannon. I look forward to working with the coaching staff and the student-athletes. I think Dan (Teliski) and Lisa (Goddard McGuirk) have put together an experienced and talented athletics media relations staff in the office.

"At the same time, we have our work cut out for us filling the shoes of the previous staff. They were outstanding in what they did at Gannon. Finally, I want to thank my family for being so supportive of me as I embark on what will likely be the final chapter of my career."

Shreve's career has spanned a variety of athletics endeavors. In addition to his time as the sports information director at Gannon and Edinboro, he also served as the Mercyhurst University sports information director from 1984-88.

Awards and accolades have followed Shreve during his highly successful career. In 2018, he was inducted into the Metropolitan Erie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. Shreve was also awarded the Irving T. Marsh Award in 2016, which is given annually to a sports information director who exhibits excellence in the field of sports information.

"I am really excited that the Gannon student-athletes and staff will get a chance to work with one of the region's best athletics administrators," said Teliski. "Bob is highly respected both in and out of his profession, as well as regionally and nationally. His ability to tell student-athletes' stories and create relationships is one of the best I've seen. The search committee knew it wanted Bob at Gannon when the opportunity presented itself during the search. We are thrill to get the academic year started while welcoming Bob back to the Gannon community."

A 1980 graduate of Notre Dame, Shreve began his career in sports information in 1982 at Frostburg State College. After two years at Frostburg State, he spent four years as the sports information director at Mercyhurst before moving into professional baseball.

He would spend two years as the general manager of the Erie Orioles, a Class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles in the New York-Penn League, before returning to the sports information profession as the sports information director at West Chester.

After a year at West Chester, Shreve returned to his hometown in 1990, taking over as the sports information director at Gannon. He worked with the Golden Knights until 1998, when he left to assume the same role at Edinboro.

Shreve has been an active participant in other area sporting events. He was the long-time public address announcer for the Erie SeaWolves – the Class AA affiliate of the Detroit Tigers – until assuming duties of the official scorer this year. In addition, he was a statistician for the Erie BayHawks, Erie's professional basketball team in the NBA G-League. Other duties include serving as a statistics coordinator at the McDonald's Classic and Burger King Classic since 1990.

The Erie, Pa., native has earned numerous College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) awards for his publications, including several First in the Nation for Men's Basketball Media Guides at Gannon three times, plus First in the Nation for Football Media Guides at both Mercyhurst and Edinboro. In addition, he has helped publicize numerous All-Americans, including Gannon basketball student-athlete Troy Nesmith, who was recognized as the national player of the year, and two-time Harlon Hill Trophy national finalist Trevor Harris of Edinboro.

He has been an active supporter of the Academic All-America program, serving as a district coordinator since 1993, before moving up to a national coordinator role. Shreve also currently serves on the publicity staff. He was the national coordinator for the D2CCA (formerly Daktronics) Men's Basketball All-America Team since 1996 until stepping down after the 2017 season.

Shreve received a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing from the University of Notre Dame in 1980. He proceeded to earn a master's degree in sports administration from Ohio University in 1981.

Shreve resides in Erie with his wife Debbie. The couple has three children – Brian (Nicole), Julie (Tyner) Kuehn and Kelly. They also have three grandchildren, Porter, Addison and Asher.
