Erie County issued the following announcement on July 30.

County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper encourages residents in Erie County to apply for assistance, especially now that the federal moratorium on evictions is slated to expire at the end of July.

For renters having trouble paying rent, utilities or other housing costs – or landlords trying to stay afloat with tenants in this situation – help may be available. State and local programs are distributing rental assistance to help renters stay housed during the pandemic.

On July 28, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) released a new online resource to help renters and landlords find available assistance. This rental assistance look up tool can be found on their website at consumerfinance.gov. Renters and landlords can visit the CFPB’s Rental Assistance Finder to find out what help they may be eligible for and the steps they can take to access assistance. The CFPB’s site also includes resources to help renters and landlords understand other resources to help navigate various financial hardships related to the pandemic.

“We want to reduce the risk of homelessness for our most vulnerable residents as they financially recover from the economic devastation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper. “We are committed to ensuring this funding is accessed by those who need it.”

The Erie County Rental Assistance Program is being administered by Erie County Care Management (ECCM). To date the program has paid out over $8.3 million and there is still over $9 million in funding available. Those who are interested in applying can visit eccm.org or call 814-823-5512.
