HARBOR CREEK SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: Coronavirus School Closing Info

Closedschool

Harbor Creek Senior High School issued the following announcement on April 6

All schools are closed indefinitely. Please check the tabs to the left of this page for more information regarding the COVID-19 school closure.

The Harbor Creek School District will launch planned instruction using an online delivery model on April 1, 2020.  This will afford students the opportunity to successfully complete the current academic school year if physical facilities continue to remain closed.  An online delivery model will also challenge students in new and different ways.

The District will provide the best possible educational program that we can to our school community under the circumstances that we are in.  Nothing takes the place of the in-person rigorous instruction we provide at Harbor Creek. However, the District is confident that we are ready to take on this new online challenge.

Overview of Plan

Online planned instruction will involve teachers using planned courses of instruction aligned to grade level and course standards.  Teachers will assess the learning of their students during the length of this school closure.  Classes will be asynchronous.  However, HCSD staff will maintain virtual office hours at regularly scheduled times.  The purpose of the virtual office hours is to:

  • Provide remedial instruction and/or support to students with planned instruction.
  • Answer questions and give feedback to students.
  • Troubleshoot barriers to student engagement.
  • Provide familiarity to students to connect with their teachers and classmates on a scheduled basis.
  • Provide socialization to students to stay connected with peers.
  •  Support parents / guardians.
This multidisciplinary approach will allow our District to maximize student engagement, support students online with planned instruction, and provide individual and small group virtual sessions when necessary.

Most teachers will be using Schoology to facilitate online learning, however some will be using email to communicate assignments.  A small percentage of students who do not have connectivity will be under the direction of the building principal, supported by the District’s Curriculum Director, Instructional Support Teacher, Itinerant Teachers, and support personnel to complete their planned instruction.

Harbor Creek School District understands that students and families will need support in a variety of ways as we move forward in this environment.  Administration, faculty, and staff will work with students and families as learning barriers arise.

Expectations for Teaching and Learning:

Administrator Expectations:

  • ·        ASSIST all faculty and staff with planned instruction for all students.
  • ·         PLAN asynchronous lessons using the District’s curriculum.
    • ·        LOGON - Each day, logon and receive assignments. Classes are asynchronous, meaning students do not need to be logged on during a specific time. There will, however, be specific office hours for each teacher where questions can be answered.
    • ·        ASSIGNMENTS - Work on, complete, and submit your assignments by any specific deadline.
    • ·        COMMUNICATE - Ask questions and communicate with any of your teachers through Schoology, Google Meet, or Email.
    • ·        Work hard. Be responsible. Do your best.
COMMUNICATE - Please contact any teachers and administrators with questions or issues. Don’t let any frustrations or problems drag on. (If we aren’t aware of a problem, there is no way for us to solve it.) We are all here to support and resolve any issues parents and students encounter.
