Senator Dan Laughlin of Pennsylvania has announced the signing of House Bill 1431 into law by Governor Josh Shapiro. This bill expands Sunday hunting opportunities in Pennsylvania, a significant bipartisan achievement. The legislation was initially introduced by Representative Mandy Steele and complements Laughlin’s Senate Bill 67.
Laughlin has prioritized Sunday hunting reform since joining the Senate, advocating for hunters’ rights and working families to have more flexibility in their outdoor activities. “With Governor Shapiro’s signature, Pennsylvania hunters now have greater freedom to decide when they hunt,” Laughlin stated. He emphasized that the change supports working-class families and respects personal choice while strengthening state traditions.
The new law increases the number of Sundays available for hunting beyond the previously allowed three Sundays. This adjustment benefits those who work or attend school during weekdays, allowing them to participate in recreational hunting on weekends.
Laughlin acknowledged retired Senator Jim Brewster’s contributions to advancing Sunday hunting initiatives. “Senator Brewster was a longtime advocate for Sunday hunting,” he noted, expressing pride in continuing Brewster’s efforts.
The General Assembly passed the bill with bipartisan support, and it was signed into law by Governor Shapiro at a ceremonial event. “This isn’t just about hunting—it’s about fairness,” Laughlin remarked, highlighting that everyone should have access to public lands regardless of their work schedule.
Laughlin expressed gratitude towards Representative Steele for her leadership and his Senate colleagues for their backing, as well as Governor Shapiro for enacting the law.
