Pennsylvania State Senator Dan Laughlin, who represents the 49th District covering much of Erie County, recently addressed several issues facing his constituents through a series of posts on social media. His messages focused on state budget challenges, community engagement in local parks, and an upcoming historical event in Erie.
On January 5, 2026, Laughlin highlighted ongoing fiscal concerns for Pennsylvania: “As we head into 2026, Pennsylvania faces familiar budget challenges—while a major revenue source sits idle. Cannabis is already here. It’s time for responsible regulation that generates revenue, protects consumers, and strengthens our economy.”
The following day, he encouraged public participation in shaping the future of local recreational spaces: “Presque Isle State Park and Erie Bluffs State Park are planning for the future — and they’re asking you to help shape it. Do you want better trails? Improved beach access? What should be added, improved, or protected? Share your thoughts: https://t.co/TYZnrC4yHL” (January 6, 2026).
On January 7, 2026, Laughlin announced the return of a significant piece of regional history: ” The Niagara Is Coming Home! We’re excited to welcome the U.S. Brig Niagara back to Erie on July 2 as part of Pennsylvania’s America 250 celebration. My office worked with PHMC to help ensure the Niagara’s return, and bring this important symbol of Erie’s history back home.”
