HARRISBURG – May 22, 2024 – Today, Rep. Jake Banta (R-Erie) introduced legislation aimed at curbing what he describes as regulatory overreach by Pennsylvania’s administrative agencies.

House Bill 2298 seeks to prevent the Commonwealth’s executive agencies from reinterpreting statutes enacted by the General Assembly, aiming to restore a clearer separation of powers between the legislative and executive branches.

“The principles of separation of powers need to be restored in order to prevent further government overregulation and control of the people,” Banta stated. “This legislation is a check and balance within the government and on the government which will lead to better results for Pennsylvanians.”

Banta emphasized that the executive branch is not responsible for law-making within the Commonwealth’s government. House Bill 2298 intends to restrict administrative agencies from altering the Legislature’s intent on enacted statutes, representing a measure designed to limit government oversight and regulation.

The bill has been referred to the House State Government Committee for review.
