Senator Dan Laughlin has announced that the Gem City Sportsmen’s Club in Erie County is the recipient of a $50,000 grant. The funding comes from the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Shooting Range Improvement Program and will be used to construct new long-range shooting benches and a pavilion at the club.
“This is great news for our local sportsmen and women,” said Laughlin. “This investment will not only improve the shooting experience at Gem City but also enhance access and safety for recreational shooters, sportsmen’s organizations, and Hunter-Trapper Education programs in our region.”
The Shooting Range Improvement Program aims to provide better access to safe public shooting ranges throughout Pennsylvania. Now in its second year, it is partly funded by the Pittman-Robertson Act, which directs federal excise tax revenues from firearms, ammunition, and archery equipment sales toward wildlife conservation and outdoor recreation.
Laughlin expressed his support for such initiatives: “I’m proud to support programs like this that strengthen outdoor recreation, promote safe firearm use, and support wildlife conservation efforts in our state.” He added his congratulations to the Gem City Sportsmen’s Club on receiving this recognition.
