Erie’s Bayfront Connector is set to receive improved traffic safety measures with the installation of new street lights, according to Sen. Dan Laughlin. The project is made possible by a $55,000 grant from the Automated Red Light Enforcement Transportation Enhancements Grant Program (ARLE). Laughlin stated, "The $55,000 will be used to replace and upgrade 201 city-owned streetlights along with new LED light fixtures. Designed to provide a smoother connection to downtown Erie and the lakefront, the Bayfront Connector will be safer for all those traveling to our beautiful city and its many offerings, thanks to the new lighting."

The ARLE program, established in 2010 and administered by the state Department of Transportation, aims to improve traffic safety, enhance mobility, and reduce congestion. Grant funding for the program is generated from the net revenue of fines collected through automated red light enforcement systems and automated speed enforcement systems.

With the installation of the new street lights, Erie's Bayfront Connector will not only improve traffic safety but also create a more pleasant and welcoming environment for visitors. Sen. Laughlin's efforts in securing the grant and prioritizing the safety of the community have been praised by local residents.

This project aligns with the ongoing efforts of the city to enhance its infrastructure and make Erie a more attractive destination. Laughlin's commitment to the development of the city and its connectivity is evident in his statement, "The Bayfront Connector will be safer for all those traveling to our beautiful city and its many offerings, thanks to the new lighting."
